Coach G smiles after winning $2,000 on NLOP

3 Year Old Anthony Gearde trains to win the 2007 World Series of Poker

We’re thrilled to award the $2,000 first prize to Coach Gerde from Rivesville, WV. If you played in the Holiday Free Roll and lost your chips to Coach G, you will feel a little bit better after reading his story.

“Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience with all the other members of NLOP. I started playing NLOP when I had to resign my position as Men's Basketball Assistant coach at Seton Hill. My son was suffering multiple seizures in early 2006 and was eventually diagnosed with Epilepsy. Anthony is 3 years old. My main concern was to then help my family as much as possible so I decided to move back to Rivesville, WV.”

“I actually found NLOP on a Yahoo search for Free poker sites. I began playing to help take my mind off of the circumstances of my child's health. I am glad to say that I am currently teaching High school Social Studies and spending quality time with my family. My son has responded very well to the medicine and has had only 1 seizure since April of 2006!!!”

“This site to me is very well organized and the quality of service from poker opportunities to replying to emails is top of the line. Believe me, I have searched far and wide and NLOP is hands down the very best free poker site in the world. 80% of my online poker play is on NLOP. Occasionally, I’ll play Free Rolls on the pay sites.”

“The 4000 Holiday tourney was an excellent tourney to start the New Year off with. I actually won the tourney on my Mother and wife's Grandmother's birthday. Both are deceased, so I definitely had some Angels looking over my shoulder!!”

“As for my strategy: I just played like most other tournaments, conservative at first until all the "All-inners" were gone. The tourney however was really very close to the vest. I was seated at many tables with some excellent players. Chat was very limited so I knew many people were pretty tight. My goal was to pick my spots to send out a few feeler bets to read the play and to then bluff with conservative bets on Pic or Suited Turns to represent made hands pre-river. I won the majority of those bets and had a decent stack into the final 150 players. I suffered a huge hit to my stack with a hand where my 2 pr was out kicked. Hung around and then waited for monsters only. When I got into the money, I was then even more relaxed. I won a big all in hand to give me about 11000 chips with 75 or so players left. Play was really uneventful until I again won two big hands that put me in top ten going into final two tables. Final table I was in 2nd position with chips. My strategy as big stack was to push my stack especially from button or small blind position. People really then called on Monsters only, but I was able to extract so many chips from just pushing the blinds up to 60K etc to call. Got down to me and one other opponent and she was able to win about 3 all in bets. I won on Aces and 5'. When the Congratulations you have won the tournament came on the screen, I was ecstatic!! I did a few dance steps as I broke the good news to my wife.”
