Our Valentine Winner Poses with his son and daughter
Dan Nitsch, from Denham Springs, LA put a smile on his wife’s face when he bought her chocolates that he saw advertised on the NLOP site. The purchase resulted in automatic entry into NLOP’s $1,500 Valentine’s Hero Free Roll on February 25th.
Relying on the poker skills he learned from his grandmother, Dan went on to win the $500 first prize. “NLOP made Valentine shopping very easy for me this year! After purchasing chocolates and flowers for my wife from Dan's Chocolates (very good chocolate by the way), I was able to register in.
I tried to be patient in the beginning and let all of the "lotto poker" players over bet or go all in. I only played the top ten starting hands at this point. Once the field thinned, I began to take advantage of my conservative early play which helped me steal some blinds and smaller pots.
When I reached the final table, I knew I was only 5 spots away from hitting the money, and I believe I was third in chips, so I reverted to conservative play until the field thinned to 5, at which point my wife and kids were very interested in the tournament!. Once, I was head's up, I poured on the pressure by almost always raising the blinds, and was fortunate that my opponent decided to take a stand when I had a monster.
